Department of the Uruguayan border with Brazil. It occupies a sector of the “perillanura cristalina” (crystalline plain land) and of the plains of the east, in the riverside of the Laguna Merín (lagoon). The area is plain, recovered by sedimentary deposits. The main river is the Olimar river. There are intense cultivations of rice, corn, trenches, barley and wheat. The cattle raising, main activity of the territory, in the high areas is dedicated to breeding of sheep and in the valleys, to bovine livestock.
