State located in the west of the country. It is a plain territory, furrowed by “cuchillas” (wavy lands) from the northeast to the southwest. Among these small elevations the flowing streams descend to the Negro
river. The vegetable formation of most of the territory is the herbaceous prairie. The main economic activity is the cattle, especially ovine and in the agriculture: cereals, vine, sunflower and other oleaginous ones prevail. The industry is based on agricultural and textile transformation.
